Tracking Your Tattoo Removal Process

by Trigs on July 1, 2010

There are many methods of tattoo removal for consumers to pick from these days.  Even if you go with the most popular, laser tattoo removal, you will have to undergo several treatments before the tattoo is completely removed.  If you use a topical tattoo removal product like tattoo removal cream, the process is going to be a long one.  People don’t have the greatest memories despite what they might think.  It would be easy to get discouraged and think that these tattoo removal creams aren’t working.  The tattoo fades so slowly that it’s difficult to look at the tattoo and accurately remember if it was darker in the past.

This is why it’s important to keep and accurate photo journal of the entire tattoo removal journey.  Here’s how to do it.

  1. Pick a location to take photos of the tattoo that you are going to be fading.  It’s important that you photograph the tattoo in the same location under the exact same light each time.  If you take take a picture of the tattoo in the bathroom under fluorescent lighting one week and in direct sunlight on your deck the next time, you won’t have an accurate comparison of the tattoo.  It will appear differently under different light.  So make sure that each time you photograph the tattoo, you do it in the same location with the same lighting.
  2. Use the same camera each time you photograph the tattoo.  If you use a low quality camera phone one day and an expensive Digital SLR camera the next time, you won’t have photo’s that can fairly be compared to each other.  Pick the camera that you are going to use and use the same one each time.  I recommend using the best quality of camera that you have access to.
  3. Take a photo once of the tattoo before you begin the tattoo removal process.  Then, once a week take another photo.  Be sure an label the photo’s with the date so you will know when they were taken when you later look back on them.
  4. Organize the photos in chronological order and in a scrapbook or on your computer.  Then each time you take a new photo, compare it the previous ones to see if you your tattoo is fading.

Be patient when beginning a tattoo fading program.  Unfortunately, no tattoo removal product gives instant results.
